Our communion hymn, “Make Us One,” was written by Carol Cymbala (c. 1940s), director of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and the wife of Jim Cymbala (b. 1943), pastor of the Brooklyn Tabernacle. Through this hymn, we celebrate our (Grace and Augustana’s) one year anniversary of joint worship which began before the merger was complete. Let the spirit make us one and keep us together in love and ministry.
Last week we heard Psalm XX by the American composer Gordon Young (1919-1998); today, we hear one of his most popular organ pieces – “Prelude in Classic Style.”
The postlude came from one of the chorale improvisations by Sigfrid Karg-Elert (1877-1933), a German composer known for his organ works. As we end the service with this piece, which is based on the famous hymn “Nun danket alle Gott” (Now Thank We All Our God), we give our thanks to God again for the ministries at Grace this past school year.
